Answering the Surgeon General’s Call to Action on ‘Protecting Youth Mental Health’:
Cultivating Emotional Champions and Change Agents

Day 1 Agenda
March 18th from 9:00 am -1:30 pm

Day one on March 18, 2022 is for youth only. Justis Lopez, CEO of Justis League, will open the day with an energizing keynote with live music. Then Youth to Youth (Y2Y), a student-led, adult-guided organization, will facilitate a series of morning breakout sessions. In the afternoon, Ty Sells and Javier Sanchez from Y2Y will create a space for youth participants to talk about the issues they face.

Instructions: Use the zoom links below to join the sessions of your choice. Everyone should plan on attending the keynote session from 9:00-10:00. Next, choose one of the three available sessions to attend from 10:30 to 11:30. Finally, join us for the exciting afternoon activity

9:00 - 10:00 a.m. Welcoming Remarks and Keynote Address

Learn to L.E.E.A.D: A conversation centering Leadership, Emotions, Engagement, Awareness, and Direction.

Keynote- Justis Lopez (also known as DJ Faro), founder and Chief Enthusiasm Officer (CEO) of Just Experience LLC, will open the first day with live music from a DJ set and engage the audience via video and chat box. There will be virtual soul train lines, shoutouts, and spotlights. You won’t want to miss this energetic opening followed by his keynote that will center holistic wellness, joy, leadership, and healthy forms of self-care. This talk will bring to the forefront the themes of the Surgeon General’s advisory and call to action around youth and mental health.

10:30 - 11:30 a.m. SOS (Sense of Self)

The focus of this workshop is to help teens identify their triggers in order to explore and implement a specific type of self-care strategy that will cater to their needs. During this workshop we break down the six types of self-care and give specific examples so youth can walk away with a self-care plan.

10:30 - 11:30 a.m. Everyday Courage

This is a teen-designed and teen-led workshop on finding the courage to be yourself. Through small-group discussions and reflective art activities, teens will have the opportunity to identify what can get in the way of practicing courage and will gain a different perspective on what courage can look like in their everyday lives.

10:30 - 11:30 a.m. Cultivating Wellness for Life

This one-time presentation for teens introduces the concept of wellness, addresses stigmas and misinformation associated with it, and suggests how we can create wellness plans that are realistic, flexible, and able to be implemented throughout our lives.

12:15-1:30 p.m. Afternoon Activity & Closing Remarks

This is an open discussion for all participants facilitated by Ty Sells and Javier Sanchez: An opportunity to hear what young people have to say about the issues they face.
